Researching The History Of Your WNY House

Washington D.C.—BUFFALO - January 20, 2012 - The Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society is pleased to present a two-part program “Researching Your House History,” which will be presented by Cynthia Van Ness, MLS, the Historical Society’s Director of Library and Archives and a research expert. The program will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012 and will feature a talk to which all are welcome, plus an optional, exclusive hands-on workshop.

WHAT: “Researching Your House History” two-part program:

Part I: 9:30 -10:30 am. Lecture on how to begin your research (auditorium).

Part II: 10:30 - 11:30 am: Limited registration research session with museum staff—participants will begin doing research using our collection (library). Limit 15 people; pre-registration required.

WHERE: Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society, 25 Nottingham Ct.

ADMISSION: Additional $5 to regular admission for both members and non-members – general admission for lecture alone.

The first part of the program is a lecture, which will take place in the auditorium, where Van Ness will speak about the museum research library’s resources, the specific tools that are available, and give tips for how to research a property in which you are interested.

The second part of the program is a hands-on research session in the library. Museum staff, including Van Ness, will guide each participant in actually beginning their research. This portion is limited to 15 people, and pre-registration is necessary. Admission for part one only is an additional $5 to regular museum admission for both members and nonmembers. Admission for both parts one and two is $10 for members and $20 for nonmembers.
