BUFFALO— Over three thousand gay men and women will take part in the annual Gay Pride Parade and celebration on Buffalo's Elmwood Avenue on June 2 and 3, 2007.

The Events mark the remembrance of the June 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City. The event is considered the turning point of the modern uprising of gay and lesbian people taking a stand to fight for their rights as United States citizens.

There are Pride celebrations in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Erie Pennsylvannia and of course North America's largest pride event, Toronto. You can find schedule information on those events here.

Buffalo Pride events include:

Dyke March and Rally


Rally at 7:00 pm, Lineup at 7:30 pm
Eckerds parking lot, 202 West Utica Street

The march lines up at the Eckerds parking lot on Utica Street goes to Elmwood Avenue and then north to Bidwell Parkway Entertainment includes singer/songwriter Jennifer Corday, DJ and dancing and a cash bar.

Buffalo Pride Parade

SUNDAY, JUNE 3, 2007

Lineup at 11:00 am at Kleinhans Music Hall(Porter Avenue Parking lot). Parade steps off at 1:00 pm.

More than 70 organizations make their way from Symphony Circle up Elmwood Avenue to Bidwell Parkway.

The parade will feature many people from area groups and clubs. The floats entered in the parade will be competitively judged with awards for the best float. The Buffalo Bear Club has won the competition for the past two years.

Grand Marshall
The parade organizers Pride Buffalo has named the Camille Hopkins Grand Marshal of the 2007 Pride Parade, Hopkins has been a Planner in the Dept. of Community Services since 1987. In September, 2002 she became the first person to openly transition from male to female as a City of Buffalo public employee. Hopkins has lobbied successfully for passage of trans-positive legislation. Hopkins is a co-founder and past president of Spectrum Transgender Group of WNY as well as WNY Director of NYTRO (NY Transgender Rights Organization). She is a Board member of Housing Opportunities Made Equal, Stonewall Democrats; she sits on the Advisory Board of The National Center for Transgender Equality.

Post parade entertainment will be hosted by WKBW-TV news reporters Julie Fine and John Borsa. The stage will be on Bidwell Parkway between Elmwood Avenue and Soldiers Place. 2:00 - 6:30 pm. Comedian Kristen Becker will perform. Music will be performed by Jennifer Corday, Kendall, Levi Kreis and The Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus.

There will be vendors and groups in the Bidwell parkway area. Pride Buffalo will have a cash bar. You must be 21 and pay a cover charge to enter the tent where alcohol is being served.

Remembering Our Stories: Telling It Our Way
A discussion panel speaks on the history of Buffalo's LGBT communities. Special Guest speakers from the Buffalo GLBT Archives & Rainbow Elders of the Niagara Frontier will share their stories on Buffalo's past.
