Community View Point Andy Garcia is A Friend, Supporter Of Mine & GLBT People Barbra Kavanaugh, Attorney, Former City Councilmember and First open glbt elected official in upstate New York weighs in. I was not at the hearing - frankly, I thought it would be just that, a "hearing", to give Andy the opportunity, maybe to some extent require him to address the concerns which had come up since the Civil rights Commission unanimously supported his appointment. When I did finally see my e-mail, I saw that, even before the hearing, people were using words like bigot, hate, homophobe....and folks were being asked to come, not to hear anything, but to come armed with anti-Garcia t-shirts, etc. I am sure there were people there to hear accounts, explanations, charges, etc. - all the things I would want to hear before I decided to go after anyone, but especially a man who has been a friend and supporter of mine and the GLBT community for many, many years - including being a proponent of anti-discrimination legislation that included trangendered people. But the media is unlikely to focus on those people.

We have looked at the candidates in the Democratic Presidential Primary. We liked Governor Bill Richardson, Senator Joe Biden and former Senator John Edwards. We took a hard look at the two candidates that remain. We know Hillary Clinton well. She has marched in the New York City pride parade. Spoken at glbt events and has supported our legislation. It is obvious that any of the above candidates and those two that remain would make a good choice for President.
