Do You Know About Life Memorial Park?

Each year members of the Buffalo Bear Club and the Imperial Court of Buffalo get together to clean up and re-plant Buffalo's Life Memorial Park on Father's Day. This year is no different except the groups are encouraging other people from the glbt community to get involved. If you would like to help with the annual park cleanup, join them 11 a.m. Sunday, June 15 (Father's Day).

Life Memorial Park was founded in 1993 by members of Buffalo's glbt community and serves as a lasting reminder to the community at large of the thousands of men and women who live with HIV/AIDS each day and as a memorial to all the people who have died from complications of AIDS.

The Buffalo Bear Club and the ICOB have worked together to maintain the park for the past five years. A park clean-up and bulb planting was held in the fall to remove leaves, debris and limbs that were damed from the October Surprise Storm. Even though the weather was cool On Mother's Day this year, the Buffalo Bears managed to get the majority of the spring clean-up done before it rained. The Father's Day clean-up will include bed edging, annuals planting and mulch spreading. Please dress to get dirty!

The Buffalo Bears also purchased new flags. The American flag has been joined by the rainbow pride flag, the bear flag and the AIDS awareness flag. If you would like to make a donation towards purchasing new TufTex flags that will survive our winters, please contact Karl Scheitheir at (716) 883-4814.

If you would like to contribute to the Life Memorial Park Garden fund please contact the Buffalo Bears through their website at www.buffalobears.org Staff
