NORTH TONAWANDA, NY (January 4, 2008) — If you attended the June 2007 Buffalo Pride parade you could not of missed the contingent of roller skating women who wowed the parade watchers and clearly were having fun. Many of those same women are lacing up the skates for some rough and ready action.
The Queen City Roller Girls will be having a New Years Bash on Saturday January 5 at the Rainbow Roller Rink in North Tonawanda. The event will feature the first bout of the 2008 season, the ladies of the Devil Dollies vs.Nickel City Knockouts.
A portion of the proceed to benefit the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”. Half-time entertainment will be provided by “Blue Rocket Trio”
The Queen City Roller Girls started with three radical, free-thinking, free-wheeling women who love the smell of the rink and the feel of eight wheels under their feet. The League's Manager Sweet Pea moved to Buffalo in April 2006 from Madison, WI where she had skated for the Mad Rolling Dolls Roller Derby League.
Longing for Roller Derby in Buffalo, she found Sissy Fit and Flo Torious via the Internet. Sissy and Flo were also looking into lacing-up some quad skates in order to bring roller derby fever to Buffalo. Sweets, Sissy and Flo pulled their resources together and worked diligently to found Western New York's first and only All-Women Flat Track Roller Derby League-The Queen City Roller Girls. The league has since expanded to a league of roughly 60 kick-ass women with 4 teams which include the Suicidal Saucies, Nickel City KnockOuts, Devil Dollies and the newly formed Sub-Zero Sirens.
