BUFFALO —Author Jessica Max Stein is coming to Buffalo to support the zine
The
Rainbow Connection: Richard Hunt, Gay Muppeteer Richard Hunt was a
central puppeteer on the international blockbusters Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, playing Scooter, Statler (in
thebalcony), Janice, Beaker and even briefly Miss Piggy and Elmo. He
was also out and proud. He died of AIDS in 1992 at the age of 40.
The 84-page chapbook is part meticulously researched biography, part
celebration and analysis of Hunt’s work, and part queer reading of the
Muppets. The presentation combines stories from the zine with about an
hour’s worth of video clips of Hunt's work. This is the second leg of
the Rainbow Connection zine tour, which was a big hit at bookstores in
Manhattan, Madison, Minneapolis, Portland OR and San Francisco.
